Stalego pobytu card is issued for 10 years with the right to extend it. The card itself is a confirmation of your status as a foreigner who has a permanent residence permit in Poland. This right is granted once and for all, and the card itself only confirms it.

The card is issued by the same Polish state institution that issues temporary residence cards - Urząd Wojewódzki do Spraw Cudzoziemców.

Your family members will be able to get their residence cards (for the first time - chasowego) on the basis of family reunification and joining your residence card.

Who can get a residence permit card?

Of course, not every foreigner can get such a card. But if you meet at least one of the above-mentioned points, you should definitely try to apply for a residence permit.

  • First of all, foreigners who have Polish roots or a Pole card are eligible for a Polish passport. Such persons are considered to be native Poles if they have documents proving their ancestors' Polish roots. If your grandparents are Polish and you have original documents showing their nationality as “Polish”, you can safely apply for Polish residency. Such documents include a birth certificate, an extract from the church book, certificates from archives, any military documents from the past of your ancestors that show that they belonged to the Polish nation. If your great-grandparents were Polish, Polish roots must be confirmed on both sides.
  • You can also apply for a stalego pobytu card:
    • foreigners who are spouses of Polish citizens. In order to qualify for a stay, you must be married for more than 3 years and stay in Poland on the basis of an hourly residence card or other document allowing you to stay legally in the country for a period of at least 2 years.
    • children born in marriage to citizens of the Republic of Poland (blood, adopted children, children under guardianship);
    • children of foreigners who already have a previous residence. The main condition is the birth of a child after receiving a residence permit card, or the birth of a child during the period of validity of the residence permit card, which preceded the residence permit card.
    • Foreigners who have officially and continuously resided in Poland for more than 10 years.
    • Refugees and victims of the slave trade who are in Poland on the basis of a residence permit issued for the same reasons. For refugees, the minimum period of residence in Poland on the basis of a residence permit is 5 years, for victims of the slave trade - 1 year.
    • Foreigners who have been officially employed for more than 4 years in professions that are included in the list of necessary and demanded professions
